This newsletter/site is a culmination of the past newsletters I used to send to close friends. I originally saw my friend doing it as a way to keep in touch with his family and friends so I completely jacked his idea. Only difference was, mine became more of a rant or a place to tell stories. Real stories that I saw firsthand growing up in Koreatown and then transitioning to corporate America. Stories that many of my friends also knew and was my attempt at reconnecting with them.
However, not all of the stories will be exclusive to Ktown or corporate America. They will extend to other encounters at gyms, churches, and random bars or Hmart. Over the years, I’ve sporadically sent these newsletters out and was encouraged by many to publish a blog or start a podcast. A podcast was out of the question because after repeating some of these stories, I would surely lose my job if my identity was ever revealed. So I settled on a formal newsletter and this is the beginning journey of it.
Recently, I realized that I’m starting to lose connections with those who used to be close to me. After thinking about it, I didn’t see a reason to limit the audience of my newsletters to a very few who probably ignore the newsletter anyways. However, I will have to be a bit more discreet about the stories I share and obviously can’t reveal serious crimes witnessed.
These stories reflect the journey of many Korean Americans who don’t fit the traditional mold of a typical church do-gooder, high brow professional, or small business owner turned degenerate alcoholic and gambler. It’s my personal journey and observation of the Ktown life to the 2.0 version of my life starting at Georgetown University and beyond.
Thank you for being a part of my journey and path to redemption.
